This antique vase, from the 1850s and sourced from Yorkshire, was one of six, each piece a different size serving a different purpose.

They would have likely been utilised in a household context, such as in the kitchen, to store various foods like grains or vegetables.

This vessel is quite sturdy and holds its look of solidity with a highly reflective black glaze. Left untreated, a duller terracotta tone wraps around the base like a band, adding contrast to the smooth silhouette of this slightly tapering vase.
