This antique apothecary jar is one of three, from Burnley, Lancashire.

It is has a delicate crazing pattern throughout; not to be confused with cracks, this is a phenomenon that occurs in some ceramics where an intricate spider web-like design appears overtime in the glaze of a piece of pottery.

This jar still boasts its original chemist label with the phone number 285, indicating that it is from or before 1905 as 4 digit phone numbers were introduced in England in the aforementioned year.

These jars would have been used to store various medicinal and cosmetic products for customers to refill their personal containers upon returning to the pharmacy.
